Spider-man 3 was recently released on Netflix on September 16, 2018, and many have re-watched this movie gem. Since its release, I have watched it twice and came to a realization: Spider-man 3 is a great movie!
Director Sam Raimi oversaw the original Spider-man movies, and while his first two films gained much praise (Spider-man receiving a 90% and Spider-man 2 receiving a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes) Spider-man, his third and last Spider-man film was mocked and ridiculed as the worst. Many point out that the film has pacing issues and contains too many plots at once, but the most popular critique is of “emo Peter Parker.” Toby Maguire walking down the streets of New York while dancing has become a meme, but I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
Spider-man 3 is my favorite film for its goofiness and humor that Sam Raimi incorporated into the film. The movie has a great disposition, with characters like Eddie Brock (played by Topher Grace) and J. Jonah Jameson (played by J. K. Simmons) giving golden lines, either intentionally or unintentionally. The villains are all interesting and can be sympathized with, the conflict with Harry Osborn (played by James Franco) is tense, and the love story is dramatic. My personal rating for Spider-man 3 is 4.5/5
While many believe Spider-man 3 is not be the best of the trilogy, it is still a great film. I remember watching this movie as a kid and wishing I was Spider-man. Today, I still watch with the same glimmer of hope and amusement.
