SGHS Senior Jessica Ramirez has been playing softball all four years of high school. Jessica plays first base, outfield, and sometimes even third base. She started playing softball because she was tired of sitting around doing nothing. She also wanted to make her grandmother proud of her, so she chose to get into softball. “What motivates me to do better is my family, along with my team. I want to be the best that I can to make my family proud and to have a winning team,” she explains.

She is on several travel teams outside of high school. In preparation for this season, she conditioned over the summer and all of first semester. She did a lot of running, for example timed running to build her stamina. Her team practices every day from February until the end of the school year. She also practices on her own when she has free time.

When asked if Jessica still gets nervous before a game, she states, “The nerves are replaced with adrenaline before games. Because it’s my last year all I want to do is go undefeated this season.” Her advice to underclassmen who are thinking of trying out is to be consistent, “If you show you are willing to do whatever it takes, you can easily replace someone above you.”
