Lilyan Ocampo, the captain of the tennis team, has a motto that continues to push her to do her best while playing her matches. “Never stop.” Not everyone is successful at first. We all have to fail in order to become stronger and never giving up shows that you are stronger and capable of being an amazing and better player” she states. This is her advice to underclassmen as well. Lilyan’s road to becoming the captain of the tennis team took her time and practice. She states “I practice every day for a couple of hours. I work on my technique in order to become better.” “She also experienced failure many times but “messing up and losing a game is what made me come back stronger.”

The team went to playoffs last year which was her proudest tennis accomplishment.  Lilyan says the best thing about playing tennis is being able to meet new people which then become great friends and create new bonds; the worst thing about playing is the injuries which thankfully she has not experienced. Being the captain and having a lot of experience still makes her nervous she admits “I still get really nervous before playing in a match. I

just try to focus on playing to the best of my ability.” Lilyan tells me that Serena Williams is her favorite professional tennis player, “she is strong, competitive, and hardworking. I admire her for accomplishing her goals and for always pushing herself to be better.”
