Carlos Vargas, (senior) asked help with his promposal… so here are eight creative promposals ideas

1.     If you like the catchy Anaconda song, why not make a poster and write “ (name) will you and your anaconda go to prom with me” while you’re in Niki Minaj’s famous anaconda pose and a friend holds the poster.

2.     If you’re an outgoing person, why don’t you dress like Jesus with your awesome poster that says “Prom 20:16and then God said… go with (name)”

The Most Dangerous Game: Elevator to Another World

By Albert Cardenas

Elisa Lam, a Chinese Canadian student visiting LA, mysteriously disappeared in January of 2013. She was staying at the Cecil Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles and the last place she was seen was in an elevator of the hotel she was staying at. This was captured through video surveillance and from what can be seen from the video feed is that Elisa looks overly concerned about her surrounding as she creeps her head out from the elevator to check all hallways leading outside of the elevator and crouching at the corner of the elevator. Was it murder? Was it a suicide? Or could it have been something far more complicated for us to comprehend? We’ll never know for sure. The hotel itself does have a history of paranormal activity and there are many reports of strange occurrences from the guests staying there. With that said, this brings us to a haunting theory of the incident.

There is speculation going around the internet that the disappearance of Elisa Lam was the result of playing the “Elevator game”. What is the elevator game? Essentially, this is a game from Korea, a ritual if you will. By performing this ritual you are supposed to get to “a different world.” According to people that have successfully completed the game, it looks the same as the town/ building that you are from, but all the lights are off and you can only see a red cross in the distance. There are no other living things there except yourself. Some say electronics like phones, cameras, etc. don’t work, while some say they do. Also, some say that getting back to the real world is harder for some reason.

Are you scared? Or nah? Do you dare to try it out? Here are the steps:

*DISCLAIMER*: It is highly recommended NOT TO “PLAY” THEM, because you just don’t “play” with the unknown. If you do choose to ignore this advice, do so at your own risk.

You must be in a 10+ story building and in the elevator alone. If someone is in the elevator with you, it won’t work.
1. Get on the elevator on the 1st floor.
2. Press 4 and when you reach the 4th floor, don’t get out and press 2.
3. When you reach 2nd floor, press 6.
4. When you reach 6th floor, press 2.
5. When you reach 2nd floor, press 10.
6. When you reach 10th floor, press 5.
7. When you reach the 5th floor, a girl will come in. That woman is not human. Don’t talk or look at the girl. If you do, she’ll take you away. I repeat, DO NOT TALK TO HER EVER.
8. Press 1, and if the elevator instead starts going up to the 10th floor, then you have succeeded. You will have reached another world where there is no one except you.
9. If you get off at the 10th floor, the girl will ask, “Where are you going?” But don’t answer.

How to return:

1. If the woman doesn’t get on AND if you don’t get off at the 10th floor.

2. If you don’t get off at the 10th floor, then press 1. If it doesn’t press, keep on pressing until it works.

To return after you get off:

1. You must use the same elevator to go back.

2. Do the 4-2-6-2-10-5 combo again.

3. After you reach the 5th floor, press 1.

4. As you’re going up the 10th floor, press some other number to cancel.

5. After you reach the 1st floor, check your surroundings.

“It’s Just a Prank Bro!”

By Albert Cardenas

Lately, many YouTubers have grown popular channels centered around a culture of pranks. This has fostered a new phrase that’s been catching on with others in YouTube as well as outside of the digital world. These popular pranks shown on YouTube aren’t really pranks at all, but a bunch of mean spirited guys doing horrible things and framing it as a prank in order to avoid trouble. You can key someone’s car and say, “It’s just a prank, Bro!” You can pretend to kidnap someone and in the end exclaim, “Relax! It’s just a prank, Bro! Look, there’s cameras!” Yup, now some are trying to get away with what most would consider to some degree a crime, just by saying, “It’s just a prank, Bro!” The supposed point of these pranks is to teach some lesson or raise awareness about an issue, but they almost always end up being an excuse to be a jerk.

Clean Yourself With an Egg

Egg cleansing is an old Roman tradition used for many centuries and adopted by many different cultures. The Romans used to believe that the egg was a symbol for life capable of removing bad energy.

According to the belief, the egg goes through a person’s aura and body, pinpointing any specific area that has negative energy. The egg absorbs all the negative energy; like a sponge, and traps it. The negativity within your body transfers itself to the egg.

If you want to perform an egg cleansing; you can do it on its own or in a spiritual bath. Follow the steps below to do your very own cleansing:

1.    Start with a fresh egg. Wash the egg in a bath of salt water and lemon juice before you begin.

2.    Take a few deep breaths and relax. Say a prayer to whatever higher power you wish. Ask for their assistance and blessing. Imagine the egg being touched by their presence.

3.    Hold the egg in your dominant hand and begin rubbing it over your body. You can either touch your body, or hold it a few inches above the surface.

4.    Begin at the head, working down to the eyes, the throat, the heart area, the shoulders, down the left (or right) arm and touching the palm.

5.    Switch hands here and run the egg down the right (or left) arm and touching the palm. Then switch back.

6.    Work the egg down the torso, to the navel, and the groin, down each leg, stopping at the feet and touching the soles.

7.    If you have a specific area that is in pain, or is affected, hold the egg there for a few minutes.

8.    Covet your cleansed body with a protective oil such as bergamot, pine, sandalwood; or vetiver. Dilute the oil in olive oil and rub over the body.

9.    Now, if you are NOT taking a cleansing bath. Dispose of the egg by breaking it in the toilet and flushing it. Then dump a cup of salt and lemon juice down the toilet. Or throw the egg into a running stream. Or near a tree off of your property.

10. If you are taking a cleansing bath. Leave the egg in the tub while you soak. Allow it to absorb more stray energy as you relax and unwind.

11. When you are finished with your cleansing bath, follow step 8 and 9

When you are done with the cleansing make sure that the egg yolk settles in the water. Some basic interpretations are:

·        If the water smells bad or you can see blood that means that an evil spirit is causing you harm.

·        If there are small spots of blood in water, it is a sign of bad luck.

·        If the water becomes cloudy without odor it is a sign of loss of soul or energy.

·        If the egg yolk has a shape of a face it is a sign of an enemy. A slender face means it is a man and a round face means it is a women.

·        If there are small bubbles in the water, it’s a sign of negative energy that was absorbed by guardian spirits.

·        If the water is clear, without abnormal shapes, scents and blood it is a sign nothing unnatural is happening.

Strange Stories

                                  By: Stephanie Manquero

Most people have gone through a moment that appears strange where they aren’t so sure of what just happened or how it happened. The students of SGHS are, unfortunately not, immune to such experiences. Some of these stories aren’t just creepy, they’re plain scary! Some SGHS students were willing to share their stories.

Itzel Navarette (Senior)

“One day, a few months ago, I woke up at 3 in the morning for no apparent reason and as I tried to fall back asleep, I heard a faint whisper by my ear. I didn’t fall back to sleep.”

 George Valazques (Senior)

“I went to my friend’s house and he had no Wi-Fi.”

Chris Banuelos (Senior)

“It was late at night and I was showering. Everyone was home and something really weird happened. I thought I heard my younger sister and I checked the bathroom and the figure disappeared once I was out. I realized no one was home everyone left; I was home alone.”

 Victoria Inguiez (Senior)

“One day, I came home after school after a long day. I was so hungry. I went into the kitchen and searched for food. I thought I was home alone but suddenly I heard someone approaching the kitchen. It was my grandma. I asked her if there was food. She then told me the worst thing ever, “no.” It was so horrible. I was starving. I needed to survive… I managed to find some cereal, poured it in the bowl, and then opened the fridge. The scariest thing happened… NO MILK. I asked my grandma if she could make anything. She then told me the second worst thing… “Hay frijoles.” It was horrendous. She then added “no hoy tapatio tan poco”.

What does your favorite sport say about you?

By: Daisy Viramontes

If your favorite sport happens to be basketball, you’re competitiveand prefer a fast-paced, energetic game, which probably play in your spare time. Having an appreciation for style, you always emphasize looking good which can come off assuperficial.

You prefer thinking in ten second bursts and taking long breaks. You value the sense of a “team” and have a masculine sensibility. You love intensity and competition.

Your effort is never questioned because you’re passionate and enjoy the thrills of good strategy. If you prefer to be a goalie, this indicates you’re tolerant yet obsessive over the team’s grand vision.

You probably don’t mind waiting in lines at amusement parks. You enjoy relaxing and prefer statistics over athletics. You’re an overachiever, intelligent, talkative, and observant. You’re also sentimental yet strong.

Underwater cycling

By: Bryan Osegueda

Underwater cycling is extremely difficult and requires high muscular endurance. The races take place in a swimming pool at the bottom of lakes and oceans. Cyclists must use specialized dense bicycles and wear scuba diving equipment. South Gate High School freshman, Esteban Flores, says, “I think it’s really hard but look at the bright side, if you fall you won’t get hurt.” True, but you will be disqualified!

The rules of underwater cycling include not being allowed to get off the bicycle. The moment your feet touch the ground or sea bed, you are out. Hitting or pushing other people off their bikes is also forbidden and will lead to disqualification. No more than 10 cyclists are allowed to race for safety and performance reasons.

During the race, there are two “watchers” per cyclist. These people are scuba divers off bikes that watch the racers in case of an emergency. The races usually are no longer than a half mile. Individually, the farthest distance cycled under water is 6,708 meters. This great achievement was accomplished by Jens Stotzner from Germany on September 8, 2013. Every year in North Carolina, the “Underwater Bike Race” takes place as a charity fundraiser.
