Brazil’s national team coach, Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri, better known as Dunga, has

made it possible for striker Neymar da Silva Santos Junior, better known as Neymar, to not only

play in this summer’s Copa America here in the U.S., but also in the 2016 Olympics held in Rio

de Janeiro. At the age of 24, Neymar wants to redeem himself and be permitted to play in the

Olympics, despite being over the age limit. He participated in the 2012 London Olympics where

he and his team won silver. He stated that, “Playing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, it would be

very special to win gold in my home country of Brazil.”

Many believe that other star players from other teams, not just the infamous F.C.

Barcelona, should play in the Olympics. Despite some criticism, Neymar has been given credit

for his excellent performance as a striker. Although he had suffered a fractured vertebrae,

Neymar has now demonstrated a strong recovery and improvement, especially with the

assistance of another star player, Lionel Andres Messi.  South gate high school senior, Hector

Favela commented on Neymar’s success by saying,” I think he’s shown time and time again, not

only is he one of the top players in his country, but also the whole world.”
