Cheerleading is a physical activity and a competitive sport. Cheerleading has to do
with jumps, cheers, and stunting to direct spectators of events to cheer on sports teams at
games or to participate in competitions.
Marilyn Nieto, is a cheerleader at South Gate high school. She joined the cheer team
last year and began as J.V. She is currently positioned as a flayer. Her favorite stunt to
perform is called “the twist cradle and the lib and pull a scorpion”. This was a stunt that took
her many months of practice and patience but she was able to perform it. When asked about
how it felt to get second place at nationals and go to Vegas, she expressed that it had been
one of her goals and a “good experience.” She was very proud of her team for having made it
so far. Marilyn said that she has good relations with her teammates since she is “always
respectful and nice to them.” However, she does feel that cheer can be very expensive at times.
